USMNT Suffers 5-2 Drubbing by Belgium, Exposing Gaps in Team Chemistry

The US Men's National Team (USMNT) faced a daunting challenge as they welcomed Belgium to Mercedes-Benz Stadium for an international friendly, but the match ended in a 5-2 drubbing for the home side.Coach Mauricio Pochettino's squad, still finding its footing under his leadership, struggled to contain Belgium's offense, conceding five consecutive goals after taking an early lead. The loss exposed significant gaps in team chemistry and cohesion, particularly in defensive sequences.Pochettino acknowledged that his team's performance was disjointed and uneven, with players visibly unsure of their responsibilities on the field. He noted that when his team matched Belgium's intensity, they were 'even, in some moment, we were better,' but couldn't sustain that level throughout the 90 minutes. The match saw several US players, including Tim Weah and Christian Pulisic, struggle to adapt to their roles, while Belgium's Jérémy Doku proved particularly troublesome for the US defense. The scoreline flattered Belgium, but Pochettino emphasized that it was a valuable learning experience for his team. With only one friendly remaining against Portugal before naming his squad for the 2026 World Cup cycle, Pochettino faces a challenging task in fine-tuning his team's performance and chemistry. The March window has turned into a 'hell week' for the USMNT, with Tuesday's match against Portugal being the last chance to iron out kinks before the grand stage.

Tottenham Sacks Igor Tudor Amid Relegation Woes

Tottenham Hotspur has parted ways with manager Igor Tudor after just 44 days and seven games, citin…
Tottenham Hotspur have sacked manager Igor Tudor after just 44 days in charge, with the club struggling to avoid relegation from the Premier League. Tudor managed the team for seven games, securing only one point from his five league matches. The final straw came with last Sunday's 3-0 home defeat by Nottingham Forest, which left Tottenham one point and one place above the bottom three. A potential demotion to the Championship would be catastrophic for the club's prestige and revenues.Tudor's departure comes amid a backdrop of human tragedy, with the manager informed of the death of his father, Mario, after the Forest game. The club aimed to handle the situation with sensitivity towards the Croatian manager.Tudor's brief tenure included two Champions League matches against Atlético Madrid, with Tottenham ultimately losing 7-5 on aggregate. His time at Spurs began with a difficult period, including league defeats to Arsenal, Fulham, and Crystal Palace. The club has gone 13 league games without a win, their worst run since 1934-35 when they were relegated from the old Division One. Tudor's approach and tactics were questioned, particularly his decision to substitute goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky after just 17 minutes in the first leg against Atlético Madrid.Tudor had been tasked with bringing organisation, intensity, and competitive edge to the squad, but ultimately failed to achieve this. The club is now searching for a new manager, with Bruno Salter set to take training in the interim.

The US men's national team faced a daunting task against Belgium at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Saturday, but the outcome was far more severe than expected. The 5-2 defeat was an embarrassing loss, easily among the USMNT's worst under head coach Mauricio Pochettino. The US had been riding a wave of momentum, unbeaten in their past five matches, but struggled mightily against a talented Belgium side. The Belgians' five straight goals after the US opened the scoring left many questions unanswered for Pochettino's team. The match started promisingly for the US, with Weston McKennie's opening strike in the 39th minute. However, that lead was short-lived as Belgium equalized in the 45th minute through Zeno Debast's well-hit goal. The US keeper, Matt Turner, was in part responsible for the goal and faced difficulty throughout the match. The second half was a disaster for the US, with Jérémy Doku at the center of the danger for Belgium. The Manchester City winger muscled away Mark McKenzie and played it across to Saelemaekers, who found Amadou Onana for the equalizing goal. The Belgians took control with Charles De Ketelaere's penalty kick in the 55th minute, making it 3-1.The final goals for Belgium came from Dodi Lukebakio, who scored twice in the 68th and 83rd minutes. The US were allowed a consolation goal two minutes from full-time through Patrick Agyemang. The loss raises concerns for the USMNT ahead of their upcoming match against Portugal on Tuesday evening. The team will need a significant improvement to test themselves against top teams like Belgium in the World Cup.

Alessia Russo was the star of the show, scoring a remarkable hat-trick in just 22 minutes, showcasing her impressive form this season.Russo's three goals took her tally to five in the last eight days, highlighting her exceptional goal-scoring ability. Her performance was praised by Arsenal head coach Renée Slegers, who described Russo as a 'complete footballer' with impressive finishing skills and other aspects of her game. The win moved Arsenal up to second in the Women's Super League table, level on points with Manchester United but with two games in hand. This positions them well in the race for automatic qualification for the Champions League group stage.Tottenham, on the other hand, suffered their third successive defeat and will look to address defensive vulnerabilities, particularly in set-piece situations. Despite a stronger second-half performance, they were unable to recover from Arsenal's strong start.Russo's goals exemplified her aerial ability and technical quality, while her third goal was facilitated by a gift from Tottenham keeper Lize Kop. Josh Kerr Plans to Break El-Guerrouj's 25-Year-Old World Mile Record

British runner Josh Kerr plans to break the 25-year-old world mile record at the London Diamond Lea…
For British runner Josh Kerr, the moment that makes the hairs on his neck tingle every time he watches it is Roger Bannister's historic achievement in 1954 – becoming the first person to break the four-minute mile barrier. Now, Kerr intends to stand on the shoulders of track and field's giants by attempting to break the world mile record himself at the London Diamond League in July."This record needs to be brought home," Kerr declares. "This is a British record. This is a British distance. And so it would be doing a disservice to the UK to not be doing it at home. It's why I can't do it anywhere else."The 28-year-old faces a significant challenge. The world record of 3:43.13 was set by Hicham El-Guerrouj in July 1999, while Kerr's best is a shade over two seconds slower. However, with focused training, a new shoe from sponsor Brooks, the support of his 16-strong entourage and 60,000 fans at the London Stadium, Kerr believes he can break the long-standing record."People [say:] 'The sport needs more rivalries,'" Kerr explains. "I don't agree. I think the sport needs more moments. We need a reason to watch. And so that's where this comes from. This is the time to go after these big moments. I have a big target of what time I want to hit. I think it's going to be pretty special."Kerr's credentials are impeccable. He is a world 1500m champion and an Olympic silver and bronze medalist over the same distance. Last weekend, he further demonstrated his form by winning the world indoor title over 3,000m for a second time."I've been in shape to run the record multiple times over the last couple of years," Kerr states. "And so there's specific key sessions, we will have KPIs [key performance indicators] going into it."To achieve his goal, Kerr plans to focus on running between 55 and 56 seconds pace for each of the four laps. "There's a lot of muscle memory with stuff, and so we'll do a lot of training at pace," he explains. "We're three or four months in deep into the mental training of it. There's a lot going on behind the scenes already. The whole season is towards this."While Kerr has his pacemakers "signed, sealed and delivered," he insists this will be a proper Diamond League race rather than a time trial. "There will be some restrictions," he says coyly when asked about potential rivals. "I'm not scared to race people. I think certain athletes will have obligations elsewhere. But it's not going to be a closed-off race."A crucial factor in Kerr's favor is the quality of his support team. "Danny's the mastermind behind everything," Kerr says of his coach Danny Mackey. "He's my head coach and team leader. Then you've got Julian, who's an assistant coach, and my wife, who helps with everything."The team also includes Kerr's mother as head physio, a "super-manager and assistant" called Nicole, a chiropractor, massage therapist, two strength and conditioning coaches, a performance and mental coach, a nutritionist, a full-time chef, and a videographer and social media assistant. Race agent Ray Flynn and management company Forte complete the 16-strong squad."I have a lot of respect for this record," Kerr concludes. "But I believe that I have the ability and the people around me that will help me get there. This record is one of the most important we have in track and field. The time is now. It's time for that record to be renewed."

HBO Max's Portobello Falls Flat: A Dull Dive into Mafia Allegations and a Mind-Controlled Parrot

The HBO Max series Portobello tells the true story of Enzo Tortora, an Italian TV host falsely accu…
The new HBO Max series Portobello had all the makings of a gripping drama: a charismatic TV host, a mind-controlled parrot, and allegations of mafia involvement. However, the show's pacing and tone leave much to be desired.Based on the true story of Enzo Tortora, the former host of Italy's top TV show, Portobello explores the intersection of celebrity, politics, and organized crime. The series' setting in the 1980s and its themes of false accusations and the power of the media are certainly relevant today.Despite its potential, the show's execution is wildly dull. The 72-minute first episode feels like a slog, and the period-authentic aesthetic, while well-intentioned, doesn't quite make up for the lack of tension or excitement. Even the bizarre subplot involving a mind-controlled parrot and its owner's obsession with Tortora can't seem to elevate the show's overall pace. The show's portrayal of the justice system is also noteworthy, highlighting the Kafkaesque experience faced by Tortora as he navigates the complexities of the law. However, this powerful theme is often overshadowed by the show's meandering pace and lack of dramatic tension.Ultimately, Portobello feels like a missed opportunity to create a compelling drama about a fascinating true story. While it may appeal to fans of character-driven dramas or those interested in Italian culture, others may find themselves checking their watches.
