Iran Launches Retaliatory Strikes on US Bases in Bahrain and Jordan
The Retaliatory Strikes
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed attacks on United States military bases in Bahrain and Jordan in retaliation for US strikes on ports and islands in the Strait of Hormuz.
Details of the Attacks
In a statement carried by state media on Wednesday, the IRGC said it launched a drone attack on the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain and a long-range missile strike on a base in Azraq, Jordan.
Escalating Tensions in the Region
The latest flare-up comes amid tensions over the downing of a US Apache helicopter in the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday. Kuwait, which hosts US troops, said it was also under attack, with its air defences “intercepting hostile aerial targets”.
The Potential for Further Conflict
The situation remains volatile, with the potential for further conflict in the region. The US and Iran have been engaged in a series of military exchanges in recent days, raising concerns about the stability of the region.
