Death Toll in Gaza Since ‘Ceasefire’ with Israel Passes 1,000

Ceasefire Milestone: Death Toll Surpasses 1,000More than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the US‑brokered October “ceasefire” between Hamas and Israel, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.Humanitarian Toll Since the October CeasefireIsraeli attacks have killed 1,005 people, while the enclave remains under a near‑total siege. Fikr Shalltoot, Gaza director at Medical Aid for Palestinians, warned that families are still burying loved ones despite the ceasefire.Israeli control of Gaza increased to 64 % of the Strip, up from the 53 % envisioned in the deal.Only 20 of 37 hospitals are partially functional; none are fully operational.Since October 23, the war has claimed over 73,000 lives and displaced 1.9 million people.Casualty Figures and Hospital Capacity: The NumbersThe health ministry’s tally of 1,005 deaths is part of a broader death count that now exceeds 73,000. Hospital functionality has dropped to 20 of 37 partially working facilities, highlighting the collapse of medical services. Why the Ceasefire Has Failed to Alleviate SufferingThe ceasefire halted major fighting but stalled on its second phase, which requires Israeli troop withdrawal and Hamas disarmament. Husam Badran, a Hamas political bureau member, said the group will not surrender weapons until broader discussions conclude.Expansion of the “Yellow Line” and continued restrictions on aid have kept Gaza under siege, prompting criticism from humanitarian groups. What Comes Next for Gaza’s Reconstruction and Peace EffortsInternational leaders face pressure to move beyond a paper agreement toward tangible actions: lifting the blockade, restoring full hospital services, and initiating reconstruction. Without progress on the second phase, the humanitarian crisis is likely to deepen.

Gaza's Children Face Skin Disease Crisis Amidst Ongoing Conflict

Children in Gaza are facing a skin disease crisis due to malnutrition, poor living conditions, and …
The Plight of Gaza's Children In a corridor inside Nasser Hospital, Iman Abu Jame sits beside her six-year-old son, Yasser, as she watches his frail body, exhausted by illness, and tries to make sense of what has happened to him. Yasser's skin is covered in angry rashes and burn-like wounds that doctors cannot explain. His body is frail from hunger. The Crisis in Gaza's Camps The family lives in a cramped tent in al-Mawasi, west of Khan Younis, an area full of fellow displaced people, which Iman describes as catastrophic. The heat is suffocating. Garbage piles up around the tents. Contaminated water is all many families can access. Insects and rodents crawl through overcrowded shelters where thousands of displaced people are packed together with no sanitation and little food. Malnutrition and Infections Before the war, Yasser was healthy, Iman says. Then came the hunger. Months of severe food shortages and soaring prices left the family unable to afford even basic meals. Malnutrition weakened his body first. Then came the infections. The Spread of Disease Medical teams from Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) say skin diseases are spreading at alarming rates among displaced families forced to live in overcrowded camps. According to Gaza's Ministry of Health, more than 17,000 ectoparasitic infections – caused by parasites living on or under a human's skin – were recorded in 2026 alone. The Impact on Children Among the 1,325 people diagnosed with skin diseases, more than 62 percent were children. Dr Rana Abu Jalal, who works at the clinic, says doctors are witnessing a 'sharp rise' in skin diseases, particularly scabies, with many cases progressing into severe infections and painful abscesses.

World Leaders Must Stop Gaza‑Style Atrocities from Spreading to Lebanon

Medical Aid for Palestinians warns that Israel’s tactics in Gaza—mass forced displacement, attacks …
In a recent editorial, the Guardian highlighted the danger of Israel applying the same brutal tactics used in Gaza to Lebanon, and Medical Aid for Palestinians echoes that warning.Field reports from Lebanon describe a climate of terror fueled by mass forced‑displacement orders and relentless military strikes, including assaults on healthcare workers. Aid groups are scrambling to assist Palestinian refugees who have fled their homes, while many others remain trapped, deepening panic in already overcrowded camps plagued by poverty and scarce services. The Israeli military appears to be mirroring Gaza’s playbook: terrorising civilians, imposing forced displacement, and targeting humanitarian and medical infrastructure. Despite a declared cease‑fire in Gaza, Israeli attacks have killed more than 690 Palestinians since October, and restrictions on aid are creating lethal shortages of medicines and equipment.Meanwhile, the West Bank endures escalating settler violence and an Israeli annexation agenda that now threatens to extend into Lebanon, further destabilising the region.Medical Aid for Palestinians stresses that impunity for attacks on civilians and health services endangers both the populations they serve and the organisation’s staff across Gaza, the occupied West Bank and Lebanon.According to the statement, the UK government must not cherry‑pick when to uphold international law. It calls for decisive action to hold all perpetrators accountable, warning that inaction will lead to catastrophic human costs. The world, it asserts, cannot allow the horrors witnessed in Gaza to be replayed in Lebanon, and governments should not become complicit allies of such atrocities.
