The Download Festival 2023 Overview
The Download festival, the biggest rock and metal festival in the UK, has finally started to emphasize first-time headliners and diversity. This year's event featured four-decade veterans Guns N' Roses as headliners, while Limp Bizkit made their headlining debut and Linkin Park became the first band with a female singer to top the bill.
Highlights from the Festival
On Friday, Swiss deathcore band Paleface Swiss dominated the second stage, while German party-starters Electric Callboy commanded one of the weekend's biggest crowds on the main stage. Limp Bizkit dedicated their performance to their late bassist Sam Rivers and friend Dougie Miller, turning their set into a karaoke night.
The Impact of Letlive's Performance
US rock band Letlive stole the festival with their energetic performance on the third stage. Singer Jason Aalon Butler led an incendiary, interactive rally, then ripped the drum riser apart and climbed the scaffolding. Their performance was described as righteous and dangerous.
Guns N' Roses and Linkin Park's Performances
Guns N' Roses' performance was marred by Axl Rose's lackluster vocals and limited interaction with the audience. In contrast, Linkin Park's performance was well-received, with their songs uniting the crowd in singalongs. The band performed hits like 'One Step Closer,' 'Crawling,' and 'In the End.'
The Future of Download Festival
The festival has made strides in representation, with Linkin Park becoming the first band with a female singer to headline. With performances from diverse bands like Letlive and Bloodywood, the festival is moving in a positive direction.
