Mexico Captures Jalisco Cartel Commander 'El Jardinero'

The Capture of 'El Jardinero' Mexican special forces have arrested Audias Flores, known as 'El Jardinero', one of the top commanders of the powerful Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), as well as his chief financial operator, Mexico's Security Secretary Omar Garcia Harfuch said. Operation Details Videos shared by Garcia Harfuch on social media showed aerial footage of the arrest of Flores as helicopters hovered overhead during the arrest operation, which the Mexican Navy said followed months of surveillance and involved more than 500 troops, six helicopters and several planes. Flores was detained in Nayarit, with an arrest warrant in Mexico and sought by US authorities for extradition purposes. The US government offered a reward of $5 million for his capture. Financial Operator Also Arrested LATER ON MONDAY EVENING, the security secretary said that Flores's financial operator, Cesar Alejandro 'N', alias 'El Guero Conta', was arrested in a joint security operation in the central Mexican city of Zapopan. 'El Guero Conta' is accused of laundering funds from illicit activities through companies and frontmen, as well as acquiring aircraft, vessels, houses, ranches, and investing in tequila production companies. The Impact of the Arrest Flores, a regional commander in control of swaths of CJNG territory along Mexico's Pacific coast, was considered a potential successor to Nemesio Oseguera, alias 'El Mencho', who ran the feared cartel and was killed by security forces in February. Carlos Olivo, a former US Drug Enforcement Administration agent and a CJNG expert, said Flores was key to operations within the Jalisco cartel, controlling networks of drug laboratories, smuggling routes, and distribution networks within the US. Mexico-US Relations The arrest of Flores comes as Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum warned that Washington's covert operations in her country must not be repeated, following the deaths earlier this month of two CIA agents in a car accident in the northern state of Chihuahua.

The Logistics of Escalation: Iran's Pivot to Land Routes Amid Strait Blockade

A critical bottleneck is forming at Karachi port as 3,000 containers remain stranded due to the US …
The Logistics of Escalation: A 3,000-Container StandoffAt Karachi port, the largest in Pakistan, a logistical crisis is unfolding. 3,000 containers holding cargo destined for Iran are stranded, unable to be collected by vessels due to the escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz. The situation is not merely a delay; it is a symptom of a broader geopolitical pressure strategy. The US naval blockade, effective since April 13, has effectively stopped ships sailing through the strait that left or were destined for Iranian ports.Analysts suggest this economic chokehold is designed to control trade rather than halt it completely. The Economics of Risk: Soaring Insurance and Transit FeesThe financial impact of the blockade is being felt immediately through the shipping industry. The cost of risk has skyrocketed, creating a bifurcated market where only certain commodities can afford to transit.War-risk insurance premiums have jumped from roughly 0.12% to 5% of a vessel's value. For a Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) valued at $100 million, a single transit now costs approximately $5 million in insurance alone.Iran has begun charging up to $2 million per vessel for passage, with payments increasingly made in Chinese Yuan or cryptocurrencies to bypass the US dollar system.Rerouting the Global Supply Chain: The Pakistan PivotWith maritime access restricted, Tehran is aggressively pivoting to land-based logistics. Documents shared between Pakistani industry leaders and government officials reveal a plan to utilize the 900km border between the two nations.Pakistani trucks would transport the stranded containers to the border, handing them over to Iranian transport.Iran is reportedly willing to pay Pakistani truckers extra to deliver cargo all the way to its final destination, despite the slower and more expensive nature of land transport. This move highlights a shift toward "resilient architecture" in trade, utilizing barter agreements and alternative corridors to survive sanctions. The Endurance Strategy: Why the Blockade May PersistThe future outlook for the Strait of Hormuz remains volatile. While the strait is technically "neither open nor closed," the strategic calculus for Iran suggests the disruption will likely continue.Analysts warn against viewing this through a standard cost-benefit lens; Iranian decision-making is driven by an "existential threat" mindset.Iran possesses 170 million barrels of oil stored on tankers at sea, providing a buffer to sustain export revenues for months. The "endurance" of the conflict is now the objective function, meaning Iran may choose to endure greater economic losses to maintain strategic pressure.

Rockstar Games Hit by ShinyHunters Cyberattack, Grand Theft Auto VI Data at Risk

Rockstar Games, the developer of Grand Theft Auto, has been targeted by a cyberattack from the Shin…
Rockstar Games, the renowned studio behind the Grand Theft Auto series, has fallen victim to a cyberattack by the hacker group ShinyHunters. The group is demanding a ransom in exchange for not releasing stolen company data, including potentially sensitive information about the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI.The attack, which was first reported on April 13, 2026, involves ShinyHunters threatening to leak data stolen from Rockstar Games' servers operated by a third-party vendor. The group initially set a deadline of April 14, 2026, for the company to enter negotiations. In a chilling message, ShinyHunters warned Rockstar: “Rockstar Games. Your … data was compromised … Pay or leak.” The group has a history of targeting major companies, including Microsoft, Cisco, and Ticketmaster.Rockstar Games has downplayed the impact of the hack, stating that only a “limited amount of non-material company information” was accessed and that there was no impact on players. However, given the high stakes surrounding Grand Theft Auto VI, which has been in development for nearly a decade and is expected to be one of the biggest releases in gaming history, any breach is a serious concern. The ShinyHunters group is linked to The Com, a loose network of cybercriminals, primarily English-speaking individuals aged 16 to 25. This group has been involved in previous high-profile hacks, including the Pornhub breach last year. This incident follows a previous major breach in 2022 when a teenager from the Lapsus$ hacking collective leaked 90 minutes of Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay footage. The hacker, Arion Kurtaj, was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order in 2023. Rockstar reportedly spent $5 million and thousands of hours recovering from that incident. The development costs for Grand Theft Auto VI are estimated to be close to $2 billion, and the game’s tight secrecy makes any data breach particularly damaging. Originally slated for Autumn 2025, the game has been delayed to November 19, 2026.

Pentagon Official Sells $24M Stake in Elon Musk's AI Company Amid Defense Deals

A high-ranking US defense official, Emil Michael, sold his stake in Elon Musk's AI company, xAI, fo…
Emil Michael, the Pentagon's under secretary for research and engineering, declared a position in xAI valued between $500,000 and $1 million in March 2025. He sold these holdings on January 9 for between $5 million and $25 million, according to government ethics records. The value of his stake increased by 400% to 4,800% during the period he owned it. xAI, which is behind Musk's Grok chatbot, is not publicly traded, making it unclear how Michael obtained his position, how it was priced, or to whom he sold it. During Michael's ownership, the Pentagon announced two separate agreements with xAI. In July 2025, the Pentagon chose Grok as one of four commercial providers to help the department utilize artificial intelligence. On December 22, the defense department announced a new agreement with xAI, paving the way for the deployment of its advanced capabilities. Richard Painter, a former ethics lawyer at the White House, said that in general, it was a criminal violation for government officials to participate in actions that benefit their own financial interests. "It sounds pretty weird," he said of the transactions. The Pentagon stated that Michael was "in full compliance with all ethics laws and regulations. Any claims otherwise are false."
