Tractor FC from Iran is set to travel to Saudi Arabia for a crucial playoff match against Shabab Al-Ahli of Dubai. The winner of this match will advance to the Asian Champions League Elite quarterfinals to face Buriram United of Thailand. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) recently conducted the draw for the quarterfinal pairings. This comes after the western zone playoffs were postponed due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and have been rescheduled for April 13-14 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The Saudi city of Jeddah will also host the tournament quarterfinals, semifinals, and final from April 16 to 25. The AFC is hopeful that the situation in the region will calm down, allowing the matches to proceed as planned. “We all want to play matches as soon as possible. So, hopefully we’re able to finish fixtures in April as we have planned,” said AFC general secretary Windsor John. “We’re hoping that things will calm down very soon.” Other notable matches include Vissel Kobe (Japan) facing the winner of the playoff between Al-Hilal (Saudi Arabia) and Al-Sadd (United Arab Emirates). Defending champions Al-Ahli Saudi will play Al-Duhail (Qatar) for a spot in the quarterfinals against Johor Darul Ta’zim (Malaysia). The AFC Champions League Two and AFC Challenge League quarterfinals have also been postponed and will be played on April 19 and 22 at centralized venues yet to be announced. Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr is among the teams competing in the Asian Champions League Two.

The Republic of Ireland's dreams of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup were dashed in a heartbreakin…
The Republic of Ireland's hopes of reaching the 2026 World Cup were cruelly extinguished in Prague as they suffered a penalty shootout defeat to the Czech Republic. Despite leading 2-0 and 3-2 in the shootout, Heimir Hallgrímsson's team failed to capitalize on their advantages and ultimately fell to a Ladislav Krejci equalizer in the 86th minute, forcing a shootout.Ireland had started brightly, with Troy Parrott scoring a penalty and an own goal by Czech goalkeeper Matej Kovar doubling their lead. However, a needless penalty conceded by Ryan Manning allowed the Czechs back into the contest. The Czech Republic, led by captain Ladislav Krejci, equalized in the 86th minute, sending the match into extra time and eventually a shootout. In the shootout, Caoimhín Kelleher made a crucial save but Finn Azaz and Alan Browne failed to convert their spot kicks, allowing the Czech Republic to advance. Jan Kliment converted the fifth and final spot-kick to send the Czech Republic into a home final against Denmark on Tuesday. The Republic of Ireland have now lost five of their last six World Cup playoff fixtures, and the pain of this latest defeat will be heightened by the realization that it was largely unnecessary. As Heimir Hallgrímsson said, 'Just pain, we all feel pain. When you go this far it's a flip of a coin. Just pain we feel being that close.'

Prem Rugby Introduces £5.4m Minimum Salary Floor for Clubs

Prem Rugby has introduced a minimum salary floor of £5.4m for each club next season as part of its …
Prem Rugby is set to introduce a significant change to its financial structure by implementing a minimum salary floor of £5.4m for each club next season. This move is part of a broader strategy to enhance competitiveness within the league. The decision was made by the Rugby Football Union Council last month, which also included the decision to ringfence the existing 10-team Prem until the 2029-30 season. The introduction of the salary floor is a key component of Prem Rugby's growth plan, which includes expansion windows every four years. This means that up to two new clubs could join the league, provided they meet the required minimum financial and sporting standards. The first tender process for new clubs is slated for 2027, with potential new members possibly joining Champ Rugby the following season and moving up to Prem Rugby in 2028-29 if they reach the playoffs.Prem Rugby's chief executive, Simon Massie-Taylor, emphasized that the league's vision is to become the best league in the world. However, this does not mean exceeding the financial capabilities of other leagues and creating wage inflation. The new salary floor is £1m lower than the current cap, which will remain unchanged for next season. Massie-Taylor highlighted that any future increases to the salary cap will be based on a formula as part of financial control measures. As part of its growth strategy, Prem Rugby also aims to host several 'Big Games' to appeal to a wider fanbase. The ambition is to have 10 Big Games by 2030, including the final and potential neutral playoffs. One example of this initiative is England's game against Fiji at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in Liverpool this summer, which could set a precedent for future events.

Los Angeles Rams Star Puka Nacua Sued Over Antisemitic Remark and Alleged Biting Incident

Los Angeles Rams receiver Puka Nacua has been sued by a woman alleging he made an antisemitic state…
Los Angeles Rams star receiver Puka Nacua is facing a civil lawsuit filed by a woman named Madison Atiabi, who claims he made an antisemitic statement and bit her on the shoulder on New Year's Eve. According to the lawsuit, Nacua allegedly said 'fuck all Jews' during a dinner in Los Angeles, which Atiabi, who is Jewish, found deeply distressing. The lawsuit also alleges that Nacua bit Atiabi on the shoulder, leaving teeth marks, and also bit her friend's thumb 'with such force that her companion screamed in acute pain.' The suit cites gender violence and negligence in addition to the antisemitic remark and biting incident.Nacua's attorney, Levi McCathern, has strongly denied the allegations, stating that multiple sober witnesses confirm Nacua never made the claimed comments. McCathern described the bites as 'horseplay' and announced that Nacua intends to sue Atiabi for defamation. This development comes after Nacua apologized last December for performing a gesture that invoked antisemitic tropes during an internet livestream. The 24-year-old receiver had a stellar season with the Rams, leading the league with 129 catches, 1,715 yards, and 10 touchdowns, and then leading the NFL again in playoff catches. His future with the Rams includes eligibility for a contract extension this offseason that could make him one of the highest-paid receivers in NFL history.
