Living with Motor Neurone Disease
Lewis Moody, the former England rugby captain, has been living with motor neurone disease (MND) since his diagnosis last October. Despite the challenges, Moody has shown remarkable positivity and clarity in the face of this debilitating condition.
The Diagnosis and Its Impact
Moody's diagnosis was a result of a persistent weakness in his left shoulder, which led to a series of tests, including nerve conduction studies. He recalls the moment he received his diagnosis, saying that he had already prepared himself for the possibility of MND. Moody's wife, Annie, and their teenage sons were also affected by the news, but they have been supportive throughout his journey.
Raising Awareness and Funds
Moody is now joining the fight to find a cure for MND. He, along with his friends and sons, will be cycling from Newcastle to Twickenham over five days to raise money for Doddie Weir's foundation, which helps fund research into developing effective treatments and finding a cure for MND. Their goal is to reach £777,777 in honor of Doddie's memory.
The Power of Positivity
Moody's approach to living with MND is inspiring. He emphasizes the importance of living in the present and prioritizing the things that bring joy and purpose. He says, 'The present is all you have... Yesterday is dead and tomorrow isn't born; there is only now.' Moody's story is a testament to the human spirit, and his efforts to raise awareness and funds for MND research are making a difference.
