Crack noted that many countries in BBC Arabic's region feature low down in media freedom rankings compiled by Reporters Without Borders, with Syria ranked 177th, Afghanistan 175th, Egypt 170th, the UAE 164th, and Saudi Arabia 162nd.Crack acknowledged that the service has made mistakes, but emphasized that they have apologized for them and taken steps to strengthen their systems.
