Mohamed Salah's Legacy at Liverpool: A Legendary Career Comes to an End

Mohamed Salah's final game before announcing his departure from Liverpool FC was a fitting tribute to his legacy. In a match against Galatasaray, Salah scored a goal, showcasing the skills that have made him a legend at Anfield. Throughout his time at Liverpool, Salah has been part of two great trios: the forward line with Sadio Mané and Robert Firmino, and the right side with Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold. His ability to score goals and create chances has been crucial to the team's success. Salah's statistics are impressive: 255 goals for the club, third on the all-time list behind Ian Rush and Roger Hunt. He has scored in 10 games in a row, a club record, and has scored 20 or more goals in a campaign for Liverpool eight seasons in a row. His most important goal was probably the penalty that set Liverpool on their way to victory in the 2019 Champions League final. His greatest goal, however, was his solo run in the 2-2 draw at home against Manchester City in October 2021. As Salah leaves Liverpool, his legacy will live on. He will be remembered as a club legend, and his contributions to the team's success will not be forgotten.

UK Manufacturers Hit by Sharpest Cost Inflation Rise Since 1992

UK manufacturers have experienced the sharpest one-month acceleration in costs since 1992, driven b…
The UK's manufacturing sector has been hit by the sharpest rise in cost inflation since Black Wednesday in 1992, as the conflict in the Middle East drives up oil prices and disrupts supply chains. According to the Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI), cost inflation in manufacturing jumped to its highest level since October 2022, marking the largest month-on-month change since 1992.The rapid increases in costs mainly relate to fuel, transportation, and energy-intensive raw materials. The composite PMI index, covering services and manufacturing, stood at 51, suggesting the economy is still expanding, but at a sharply slower pace than the 53.7 seen in February.Chris Williamson, chief business economist at S&P; Global Market Intelligence, said: "Output growth across manufacturing and services has slowed to a crawl as companies blamed lost business directly on the events in the Middle East, whether through heightened risk aversion among customers, surging price pressures, higher interest rates, or via travel and supply chain disruptions."The CBI's survey of the retail sector also showed the fastest annual decline in sales volumes since April 2020, with the balance of retailers reporting rising sales at -52% in March, down from -43% in February.Martin Sartorius, lead economist at the CBI, said: "Retailers report that weak economic conditions continue to weigh on household spending, with subdued activity also evident across the broader distribution sector."Emily Sawicz, a director and industrials senior analyst at RSM UK, said: "Despite some resilience, geopolitical tensions remain a key concern for UK manufacturers – underscoring that conditions remain highly uncertain. The recovery many hoped to see take hold in 2026 now appears likely to be delayed at best, as rising energy costs and persistent inflation risks threaten to slow momentum."

Global Muslim Communities Mark Eid al-Fitr Amidst Ongoing Conflicts

Muslims worldwide celebrated Eid al-Fitr on Friday, marking the end of Ramadan. The festivities too…
Muslim communities around the globe observed Eid al-Fitr on Friday, signifying the conclusion of the sacred month of Ramadan, during which devotees abstain from food and drink from dawn till dusk. The culmination of Ramadan is marked by the sighting of the new moon, heralding the onset of Shawwal. However, variations in moon sighting practices lead to discrepancies in the timing of Eid celebrations across different countries. In several nations, including Mali, Niger, and Afghanistan, Eid al-Fitr was observed on Thursday, whereas in the Middle East, Africa, and Southeast Asia, it was celebrated on Friday. This joyous occasion, which extends over two days, is distinct from Eid al-Adha, which occurs during the Hajj pilgrimage. Traditionally, Eid al-Fitr commences with congregational prayers in open spaces, providing an opportunity for families and friends to unite for collective prayers and festivities. The celebrations this year are overshadowed by conflicts and instability in numerous Muslim-majority countries. In Iran, the ongoing war has resulted in widespread disruptions, while regions in the Gulf have experienced repercussions from escalating tensions. The United Nations reported that over one million people have been displaced in Lebanon due to Israeli attacks. Furthermore, Sudan has evolved into the world's largest humanitarian crisis as the conflict enters its third year.

Marco Bezzecchi of Aprilia dominated the MotoGP Brazilian Grand Prix on Sunday, securing his fourth consecutive win and taking the lead in the championship standings.Starting from the second position on the grid, the 27-year-old Italian rider quickly seized the lead and maintained it throughout the race, marking his second win of the year after triumphing at the Thailand Grand Prix earlier in the month. The race saw track degradation concerns and scorching temperatures, prompting a reduction in the race distance from 31 laps to 23, announced just before the start. Bezzecchi's teammate, Jorge Martin, finished second, while VR46's Fabio Di Giannantonio secured third place, holding off defending champion Marc Marquez.Bezzecchi attributed his victory to adjustments made to his riding style and the efforts of his team, who worked tirelessly to improve the bike's performance after a challenging Friday practice session. He dedicated the win to his friend Roberto Lunadei, a mechanic who passed away in a road traffic accident the previous week. With this victory, Bezzecchi now leads the championship standings by 11 points over KTM's Pedro Acosta. The MotoGP action will shift to the US Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, scheduled for March 27-29.

Gulf Economies Reeling as Iran War Disrupts Trade and Tourism

The ongoing conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran is having a significant impact on the economi…
The economic fallout of the US and Israel's war with Iran is being felt across the globe, with Gulf economies suffering some of the worst damage. Iran has launched continuous attacks on Gulf states since the onset of the conflict on February 28, arguing that it is targeting military bases used by the US for the war.Gulf nations have rejected Tehran's claims, insisting the attacks on them are unjustified. The Iranian strikes have upended energy production and inflicted major disruptions to tourism and travel, putting the region at risk of some of the most severe economic harm since the 1990-1991 Gulf War.According to Khaled Almezaini, an associate professor of politics and international relations at Zayed University in Dubai, the region is likely losing hundreds of millions of dollars per day in economic activity due to disruptions to aviation, tourism, shipping routes, and energy exports.Middle Eastern oil producers' daily output declined from 21 million barrels to 14 million barrels after a little more than a week of conflict, according to Rystad Energy. Output is expected to drop substantially further if commercial shipping continues to avoid the Strait of Hormuz due to Tehran's threats.Goldman Sachs estimated that Qatar and Kuwait could see their GDPs plunge 14% if the war lasts until the end of April, with the UAE and Saudi Arabia facing contractions of 5% and 3%, respectively. Meanwhile, S&P; Global Ratings has affirmed a 'stable outlook' for Qatar, citing the country's large financial buffers. The war has also spilled over into other critical sectors, particularly tourism and travel, which accounts for about 11% of the GCC's GDP. Airspace closures and restrictions led to 37,000 flight cancellations from February 28 to March 8 alone. In an analysis published last week, the World Travel & Tourism Council estimated that the conflict was costing the region $600m in daily spending by international visitors. The economic fallout could be comparable to historic regional crises if the war drags on.

Jeffrey Epstein, the late financier and convicted sex offender, urged Canadian-American media and real estate mogul Mortimer Zuckerman to give up control of his financial affairs. Epstein cited Zuckerman's "potentially dangerous" cognitive impairment as the reason for his concern. In an email from October 2015, Epstein suggested that Zuckerman enter a guardianship or conservatorship for his own protection. He expressed concern for Zuckerman's "financial, emotional, physical, and psychological safety", stating that his friends, including himself, were worried about the mogul's well-being.Epstein proposed that Zuckerman grant authority to manage his affairs to Terje Rod-Larsen, a Norwegian diplomat, Zuckerman's nephews, and "anyone else you trust." He emphasized that Zuckerman's "remarkable abilities" were no longer sufficient to protect him.Zuckerman, the owner and publisher of US News & World Report, appeared to take Epstein's advice seriously, thanking him for his "thoughtfulness and friendship" and seeking recommendations for a lawyer with experience in such matters.Epstein also discussed Zuckerman's health with his nephew, Eric Gertler, advising him to oversee the sale of Zuckerman's stocks, art collection, helicopter, and plane. It is unclear if Zuckerman followed Epstein's advice.Zuckerman announced his step down as chairman of Boston Properties about six months after his correspondence with Epstein, but did not cite any health concerns at the time.

South Yorkshire's Creative Revival Gains Momentum with New Industries

South Yorkshire is experiencing a creative revival, driven by new industries and investments, trans…
South Yorkshire is on the cusp of a significant transformation, driven by a surge in creative industries and investments. The region, once known for its steel industry, is now home to the UK's biggest podcast festival, Crossed Wires, and Persephonica, a leading independent podcast producer. The success of Adolescence, a Netflix hit produced by Warp Films, has been a catalyst for this change. The show's multiple awards at the Emmys and Golden Globes have brought international recognition to the region. Oliver Coppard, the Labour mayor of South Yorkshire, attributes the region's renewed confidence to a shift in mindset. He believes that the area's leaders have finally begun to offer an ambitious vision for its future. The region's economic growth is also driven by investments in defence and manufacturing. BAE Systems and Sheffield Forgemasters are among the companies contributing to this growth. However, experts caution that the region's future cannot rely solely on these industries. Jim O'Neill, a leading economist, emphasizes the need for a diversified economy and a strong public transport system. Despite challenges, the mood in South Yorkshire is optimistic. The region's young people are choosing to stay and work in the area, driven by the availability of high-skilled jobs and new opportunities.
