The Hamstring StrainLionel Messi sat out Argentina’s friendly match against Honduras as he continues to manage muscle fatigue and a mild strain in his left hamstring ahead of the upcoming World Cup.Messi, who turns 39 in three weeks, was active after warming up with his teammates at Kyle Field on the campus of Texas A&M; before the game on Saturday night. He stayed on the bench, though, watching from the sideline as Argentina won 2-0.Recovery ProgressThe team has said Messi’s recovery time will depend on “his clinical and functional progress.”Messi was diagnosed with muscle fatigue in his left hamstring by his Major League Soccer (MLS) club Inter Miami after he made an abrupt exit from Miami’s 6-4 victory over Philadelphia in the 73rd minute late last month.Upcoming World Cup MatchesArgentina next play Iceland in Auburn, Alabama, on Tuesday in a final World Cup tune-up before resuming their training in Kansas City, where the Albiceleste will begin their World Cup title defence against Algeria at the Arrowhead Stadium on June 16.During workouts in Kansas City on Wednesday, Messi came to the practice field after the rest of the team and did some conditioning work off to the side.World Cup RecordsMessi, who’s widely expected to retire from international football after the tournament, holds the record for most World Cup matches (26) and needs four more goals to surpass Germany’s Miroslav Klose’s World Cup record of 16.Friendlies Before the World CupMeanwhile, multi-champions Brazil and Germany also won their preparatory games, although by small margins, with former champions England and hopeful Portugal also securing victories. The busy day of friendlies saw some of the biggest stars on display, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Vini Jr and Mohamed Salah playing.

Football Saved Me: Sarah Rhind's Journey from Addiction to Purpose

Sarah Rhind, a former heroin addict turned football goalkeeper and charity coordinator, credits foo…
The Power of Football in RecoverySarah Rhind, a 42-year-old goalkeeper and Street Soccer charity coordinator, has a powerful message about how football saved her from heroin addiction. In her recently published autobiography, "Scars Under The Jersey," Rhind details her journey through addiction, recovery, and the transformative role football played in her life. "I can wholeheartedly say that without it I wouldn't be in the position that I'm in now – if I was even lucky enough to still be here," she states emphatically. From Participant to Coordinator: Football as LifelineWhat makes Rhind's story particularly striking is her journey from participant to coordinator at Street Soccer, a charity that provides free sessions for at-risk and socially disadvantaged people. Before working for the organization, Rhind was a participant who relied on the weekly sessions to stay clean. "There were times where I'd come through a really rough weekend, struggling with thoughts of using and relapsing but hadn't done it," she recalls. "There were many times where the reason was literally: 'If I use, I can't go to football on Tuesday.'"Mental Health and the Pitch: A Sanctuary from NoiseRhind describes football as a sanctuary from the "mental noise" that consumed her life. "My mind is 24/7 from the minute I wake up to the minute I go to sleep at night; it's 20 tabs open and they're all about different things," she explains. "When I'm on the pitch and playing football the focus is just on that, because that was most important. It's like a transition happens. I get my boots on and step on to the pitch and I find it is the only place that I am able to leave the mental noise."Breaking Barriers: Women's Football and InclusionNow representing Scotland at international events like the Homeless World Cup (2015) and playing in the Scottish top flight with Hamilton Academical, Rhind is passionate about creating opportunities for women in football. She notes that women of her age have "missed out so much" compared with younger generations benefiting from the growth of the women's game. "I hear all the time: 'I'm not fit enough, not strong enough, I can't play football,'" she says. "When did society become so about having to be really good at something that you can't just try it or to have fun with it?"The Healing Power of StorytellingWriting her autobiography was a cathartic experience for Rhind, who found the process to be "an incredible platform for healing." She particularly struggled with documenting moments of suicidal thoughts, noting that "it had taken me a couple of weeks to actually be able to write a sentence out about being suicidal." The act of writing, however, became therapeutic. "I just wrote it and I remember it so clearly: I just sat and looked at that sentence and realised what a powerful form of therapy that process had been," she reflects.A New Chapter: Continuing the JourneyFor Rhind, recovery is an ongoing process. "Life is hard and that's always going to be the case; things are going to keep happening," she acknowledges. "But, hopefully, I can keep building my toolbox of coping mechanisms for dealing with those things when they come, and keep talking." Through her work with Street Soccer and sharing her story, Rhind continues to help others find their path through darkness, using football as both a literal and metaphorical lifeline.

Teenage Sensation Antonelli Claims Monaco Pole in Stunning Mercedes Display

Teenage sensation Kimi Antonelli defied expectations by securing pole position for the Monaco Grand…
The Monaco MasterclassFormula One racing sensation Kimi Antonelli made a mockery of suggestions that the Monaco Grand Prix would stall his incredible start to the season by producing a stunning qualifying lap to stick his Mercedes on pole position. The 19-year-old championship leader edged out Red Bull's Max Verstappen by just 0.043 seconds to become the first Italian since Jarno Trulli in 2004 to take pole position in the principality. The Magic Lap That Secured HistoryThe qualifying battle lived up to expectations, with provisional pole changing hands several times before Antonelli snatched it with his final lap on Saturday. "It was one of those laps that we call a magic lap. I was able to put it all together. It was such a close qualifying with Max," Antonelli, who clocked 1:12.051 (1 minute and 12.051 seconds) to claim his fourth pole in six races this season, said.Championship Standings and Team PerformanceAntonelli is the youngest driver to lead the championship, having won the last four races, but the unique nature of Monaco's twisting circuit, full of slow corners, was supposed to take away the Mercedes power advantage. Ferrari had been strongly tipped as race favourites but had to be content with the second row on Sunday's grid, with Lewis Hamilton third quickest, 0.228 seconds slower, and local favourite Charles Leclerc, winner of the race in 2024, fourth.Shattering Monaco ExpectationsAntonelli's performance has significantly altered the dynamics of the championship race. Ferrari dominated Friday's two practice sessions, with Hamilton and Leclerc first and second in both, although Antonelli was quickest in Saturday's final practice. "Congrats to Kimi. Mega, mega job. Having your first pole here is so special," three-time Monaco champion Hamilton, who is yet to win a race for Ferrari, said. "It was tough for us. We were looking so strong in practice, and we barely changed anything, but the car was drastically different once we got to qualifying for some reason."Race Day PredictionsWith the Monaco circuit being notoriously difficult to overtake on, Antonelli now has a golden chance to continue his dream start to the season by emulating Trulli, who converted his pole into a victory in his Renault in 2004. Of the last 22 Monaco Grands Prix, only six have been won by a driver who did not start on pole, such is the extreme difficulty of overtaking on the narrow, twisty circuit. "If you would have told me yesterday I would be on the front row, I would have taken it," Verstappen said, acknowledging the challenge ahead.

Bonnie & Clive Review: A Cheerfully Ridiculous Covid Road‑Trip Comedy Misses the Mark

British indie comedy *Bonnie & Clive* attempts a light‑hearted pandemic road‑trip to Cornwall, but …
Quick Synopsis: A Pandemic‑Era Road Trip to CornwallBonnie & Clive follows three twenty‑somethings who set off from south London for a grandparents’ house in Cornwall at the start of a Covid lockdown. Eleanor May Blackburn plays Bonnie, who bumps into homeless busker Clive (Michael Kodi Farrow) and a hitchhiking anthropology student Wilco (James Jip) as they cruise in a retro 1990s camper van.Low‑Budget Charm or Over‑Played Quirk? The film leans heavily on whimsical ukulele‑accompanied songs and deliberately “naff” humor, but the novelty wears off within minutes. Performances feel exaggerated, reminiscent of children’s TV, and the comedic beats—such as a dead body in a wheelchair at the Eden Project—feel forced rather than funny.Box‑Office Outlook and Release TimingDistributed in UK cinemas from 3 June 2026, the movie’s modest budget and niche premise limit its mainstream appeal. Without strong word‑of‑mouth or critical buzz, opening weekend revenues are likely to be modest. What This Means for British Indie ComedyShows the challenge of balancing low‑budget creativity with audience expectations.Highlights the risk of relying on pandemic‑themed nostalgia.May push indie makers to seek sharper scripts over gimmicky charm.Looking Ahead: Potential Cult Following?Despite its flaws, the film’s earnestness and quirky set‑pieces could endear it to a small cult audience, especially among viewers who appreciate off‑beat British humor.

Sony 1000XX the Collexion Headphones: Supreme Comfort and Quiet Luxury

Sony has released the WH-1000XX the Collexion, a premium anniversary edition of its popular 1000X s…
The LeadSony has released the WH-1000XX the Collexion, a premium anniversary edition of its popular 1000X series headphones that celebrates a decade of noise-cancelling excellence. These headphones offer exceptional comfort, luxurious materials, and superior sound quality while positioning themselves as direct competitors to high-end rivals like Apple's AirPods Max 2 and B&W;'s Px8 S2.The Anniversary Evolution: Design and ComfortThe original 1000X launched in 2016, igniting a fierce rivalry with Bose and its QuietComfort line, which would push noise-cancelling technology dramatically forward as each tried to outdo the other with subsequent releases. Now Sony has taken the best elements from the last six 1000X iterations to create something more refined—not to replace the current WH-1000XM6, but to offer a more luxurious set with plusher materials and sleeker design. The form of the 1000XX isn't a complete departure from its siblings, but they do not fold for travel and are less bulky, with 5.3mm thinner ear cups and a more slender-looking headband. The headphones are covered in high-quality pleather material and feature highly polished and sandblasted stainless steel arms—no hard plastic in sight.Everything about them is smooth, from the sliding of the resizing arms to the feel of the metal. The redesigned ear cups have more space for your ear and plusher cushions than standard Sony headphones. The sleek headband spreads across your head when you put them on to distribute weight, while a lighter clamping force keeps the headphones in place without any undue pressure. The result is one of the most comfortable sets of headphones available, matching the very best from Bose and surpassing higher-priced rivals.Market Positioning and Price AnalysisThe WH-1000XX the Collexion cost £549 (€629/$649/A$1,000), sitting above the £349 1000XM6 and directly competing with high-priced luxury headphone rivals. This premium pricing positions Sony in the luxury audio segment, challenging established players like Apple's £499 AirPods Max 2 and B&W;'s £629 Px8 S2. The price reflects the use of premium materials, including pleather and stainless steel, which replace the standard hard plastics used in most headphones. The battery lasts for about 24 hours of listening with noise cancelling active or up to 32 hours with it off, which is more than enough for any plane journey or commute, but is short of the regular 1000XM6. A five-minute charge adds up to 90 minutes of playback, with a full charge taking about 3.5 hours.Audio Excellence in the Luxury Headphone MarketThe 1000XX feature the QN3 chip and noise-cancelling hardware from the 1000XM6, which produces a really good ambient sound mode and similar but not quite as capable noise cancelling. They can easily handle engine roar and other low and mid-tone noise but can't quite reach the same high bar set by the 1000XM6 on higher-pitch irritations of background chatter, keyboard clicks, and other commute or office sounds.Instead, sound quality is really where the 1000XX shine. The headphones support Android's super-high-quality LDAC Bluetooth audio format but also have a new, more capable AI music upscaling tech called DSEE Ultimate powered by the new V3 companion chip. That system rebuilds the data lost in compressed music and makes quite a difference to standard-quality streaming music and the AAC Bluetooth audio format used on the iPhone. The Future of Premium Audio TechnologySony's release of the 1000XX the Collexion signals the company's commitment to both technological advancement and premium materials in the competitive headphone market. As consumers increasingly demand both superior sound quality and comfortable, aesthetically pleasing designs, we can expect other manufacturers to follow suit with their own luxury offerings. The integration of AI upscaling technology like DSEE Ultimate represents the future direction of audio processing, where algorithms enhance compressed audio to deliver richer listening experiences. This trend will likely accelerate as companion chips become more powerful and AI algorithms become more sophisticated. As the premium headphone market continues to grow, we may see more specialization within the category, with different models targeting specific use cases while maintaining the high standards of comfort and audio quality that consumers now expect from luxury audio products.

Amazon Expands Ultra-Fast UK Deliveries with Same-Day Fresh Groceries

Amazon is revolutionizing UK grocery delivery by expanding ultra-fast services to include fresh pro…
The Lead: Amazon's Grocery Delivery RevolutionAmazon is transforming the UK grocery landscape by expanding its ultra-fast delivery services to include fresh produce and same-day options across major cities. This strategic pivot comes after the company closed its standalone grocery stores, signaling a shift toward delivery-focused operations rather than physical retail locations. The Event Details: Expanding Ultra-Fast Delivery NetworksAmazon is significantly expanding its Amazon Now service, which delivers goods in less than 30 minutes, to now serve Manchester and Birmingham in 2026. The company is also extending same-day delivery services to Ipswich and Coventry, while enabling shoppers in London to add fresh groceries to same-day deliveries—a service previously trialled in the US.Shoppers can now add fruit and vegetables, meat, poultry, seafood, dairy, bread, eggs, and frozen foods to the same basket as other groceries and products ranging from fashion to DIY kits. The service will initially be available in parts of central and east London, with plans to expand to additional postcodes across the country in coming months. The Data Analysis: Investment and Market PositionAmazon's UK operations continue to grow, with the company reporting sales of about £32bn in the UK in 2025—a 10% increase from £29bn in 2024. The tech giant has committed to investing £40bn in the UK over three years starting from 2025, demonstrating its long-term commitment to the British market. The grocery delivery expansion represents a significant strategic shift after Amazon closed its 19 standalone Amazon Fresh stores, with five being converted to new Whole Foods outlets. This move comes as Amazon faces stiff competition from established players like Tesco, Sainsbury's, and the Ocado-Marks & Spencer joint venture in the UK grocery market. The Impact Analysis: Changing the Grocery Delivery LandscapeAmazon's expansion of ultra-fast grocery delivery is reshaping consumer expectations and competitive dynamics in the UK retail sector. By offering same-day delivery of fresh produce alongside other goods, Amazon is blurring the lines between traditional grocery shopping and general e-commerce.The company's approach leverages its vast logistics network and technological capabilities, including increased use of robotics in warehouses and AI-powered systems. The Darlington fulfillment center has begun trialling drone flights as the first UK location for its Prime Air delivery service, further demonstrating Amazon's commitment to innovation in last-mile delivery. For consumers, the service offers convenience with Prime members receiving free same-day delivery on orders worth more than £20, while non-Prime members pay a £5.99 delivery fee regardless of basket size. This pricing strategy aims to drive Prime membership while maintaining accessibility for all customers. The Prediction: Future of Grocery Retail and EmploymentAs Amazon continues to invest in its UK operations, we can expect further expansion of ultra-fast delivery services to more cities and regions. The company's focus on partnerships with retailers like Morrisons, Iceland, Co-op, and Gopuff suggests a hybrid approach combining Amazon's logistics infrastructure with specialized grocery offerings.Looking ahead, Amazon's increased use of AI and robotics will continue to transform the nature of work in logistics and fulfillment. While these technologies may reduce certain traditional roles, they will create new opportunities in engineering, maintenance, and oversight of automated systems. The company's commitment to taking on about 1,000 apprentices annually in the UK indicates a recognition of the need to develop future talent. However, challenges remain in aligning education with industry needs, as noted by John Boumphrey, who suggested that the current education system may not adequately prepare young people for the evolving job market. This could lead to increased collaboration between industry and educational institutions to develop relevant skills and potentially mandatory work experience programs.

Running a Marathon in Your 50s: How Zombies, Run! Helped Me

A 56-year-old man shares his experience of running his first marathon with the help of the interact…
The Unlikely Motivation At 56, I am running my first marathon, an old, fat, bald dad surrounded by millennials in body-hugging Lycra and smiles that look AI-generated. But I am ahead of them. For they are only competing for positions and personal bests, and I am being chased by zombies. The Event Details I started off accompanied by audiobooks, but when Ben Elton’s autobiography got a bit whiny, I remembered Zombies, Run! – an interactive running game for smartphones that came out years ago. That became my running companion. The Data Analysis I am doing the Hal Higdon Novice Marathon Training Program, involving three “short” runs during the week and a “long” run at weekends. The distances slowly increase over 18 weeks. For the first few weeks, I am doing three- or four-mile runs during the week and six- to 10-mile runs at the weekend. The Impact Analysis Unfortunately, I spent the 90s playing football on hangovers and Red Bull without stretching once. My glutes and hamstrings give me constant pain after 10km, and the story is no longer enough to distract me. Luckily, the best bit about Zombies, Run! is that you can link the game to a playlist on your phone, so you get a minute of narrative, then the music fades up for a bit before returning to the story. The Prediction I ran the first half in two hours and 10 minutes and the second half in three-and-a-half hours. Now I have to train for another one so I can try to beat five hours – because that is what dafties like me do. Luckily, Zombies, Run! is now up to season 11, and I only got as far as the end of season 2.
